VIC:Vic govt tries to stop work bans
The Victorian government has again applied to the workplace umpire to suspend industrial
action by child protection workers.
The Community and Public Sector Union workers are reinstating work bans in the child
protection sector tomorrow following the government's announcement last week it will axe
more than three-and-a-half-thousand public sector jobs.
Union members will also escalate industrial action across other public sector areas,
including extra work bans at state prisons.
Community Services Minister MARY WOOLDRIDGE says the government has applied to Fair
Work Australia to have the bans suspended for six weeks.
She says it's appalling the union would use vulnerable children as pawns in their industrial
bargaining process.
The government's application is due to be heard by Fair Work Australia tomorrow.
